What do you use the cover the exposed edge of the riser?

How would you cover up the side cut of riser? I’m looking around the Internet for the way to trim the riser side without miter joint with face stringer, but there was none.

Hello,  Can you install treads/steps without nosing?  What is its real function? I have a closed-sided staircase and considered treads without adding nosing.  Please advise.
