A really great trick is to use s hand masker with 9 ” paper and a high adhesion tape and pull off a section and stick it to your stomach like an apron. You can wipe excess caulk onto it. Once it fills up just crumple it up and pull off a new section. Works really well when using lots of caulk on exteriors

I can see what I’m doing wrong in covering screws, filling wider gaps and the pressure and angle changes in toweling on mud to feather with the least amount of blistering and follow up sanding. I just have a small repairs from time to time and mudding is the skill you pay a professional for; yet small repairs are the calls you’ll least likely get a guy to come out to do so I’m glad to learn it.
I’d stay away from Alex caulk or even the Alex II.
Dynaflex 230 never cracks and it’s very nice to work with, unlike phenoseal.

I envy the fact that you have smooth drywall. The house I bought has orange peel textured wall, so I have to ask – how you keep clean caulk lines when dealing with textures? I’m also curious – do you use the same caulk for a bead between floor and molding, on a tiled floor install?
